Free Image Background Remover

Get a clean transparent cutout from any photo.

Remove background with AI.

How it works

Three steps. The AI runs on your device, so your image never leaves your browser.

  1. STEP 1

    Upload your image

Drop, paste, or pick any JPG, PNG, or WebP file. Works on people, products, pets, and more.

  2. STEP 2

    Run the AI

Click Remove background. The model runs locally in your browser — no upload, no server roundtrip.

  3. STEP 3

    Download the cutout

Save the result as a transparent PNG, ready to drop onto any background you want.

Frequently asked questions

Is this background remover really free?+

Yes. The AI model runs entirely in your browser, so there's no per-image cost on our side and no usage limit on yours. No signup, no watermark.

Does my photo get uploaded to a server?+

No. The image never leaves your device. Removal happens on-device using the open-source ormbg model, which downloads once then caches for future runs.

Why is the first run slow?+

The first time you click Remove background, your browser downloads the AI model (~40 MB). After that it's cached, and subsequent images process in a few seconds.

What image formats are supported?+

Input: JPG, PNG, and WebP. Output is always a transparent PNG so you can drop the cutout onto any background you want.

What size of image works best?+

Anything from a small profile picture up to ~4K resolution. Very large images are scaled down to stay within your browser's memory.

Does it work for products, people, pets, or hair?+

All of the above. ormbg handles people, products, animals, and most everyday photos, with clean edges on hair and fur. Translucent objects (glass, smoke) are still hard for any model.

What if the background is not removed cleanly?+

Try running the image through this tool one more time first; a second pass can clean up leftover haze or small background fragments. If the edge is still not clean, use our AI generator and ask it to remove the background. This in-browser remover uses a small model so it stays free, private, and fast on your device, which means complex hair, glass, shadows, or busy backgrounds may need a larger AI model.
